Imagine this. ?
You’re finishing up delegating tasks to your team and realize the song that just came on isn’t a favorite.
Your workflow is completely interrupted.
So, you, being an intelligent and capable person, open up Spotify or YouTube, whatever it is and click your favorite playlist.
You hit play and everything is grand.
You’re back smiling & all is good.
Now, that was quick and easy, right? Your SEO knowledge of “what works” and “what doesn’t work” for your website should be the same.
But it’s not… is it?
Not with every guru out there tooting their horn about how difficult Google’s algorithm is to crack but they’ve done it.
… Just buy their $1,000 course to find out.
We got tired of it and so did everyone else.
Am I right?
Well, just over 6-months ago now, we decided we wanted to solve this issue for our private clients.
What I’m about to tell you are our findings of late-night QA and code-breaking tiring sessions that led to one incredible breakthrough.
The Problem With Traditional SEO
With a few visual diagrams, I’m about to show you what the traditional method of doing on-page SEO looks like.
Let’s take the above diagram to illustrate an example.
Let’s say in a perfect world, there were only 3 things you needed to do to improve your rankings in search engines per page. (I wish)
1. Keyword in Title
2. Keyword in URL
3. Keyword in Heading Tag
And let’s say hypothetically, you made only these 3 changes to every page on your website.
Everything may be going great, you’re ranking, your boss is happy, and you’re the office SEO genius.
But then, inevitably, you wake up one morning, it’s Christmas Eve and Google released another update.
Right before the Holiday to smash your hopes and dreams.
The SEO community is naming it after some exotic creature like “The Pegasus Update.”
You may be thinking to yourself (many of these probably ring a bell.)
1. What on Earth did Google change?
2. What isn’t working now?
3. What websites can I look at that are up or down in traffic?
4. What correlations are the community seeing?
The unfortunate scenario is… none of these questions are really going to help your website much.
Because like you, your website has it’s own unique thumbprint in the inter-webs.
So… how do you know what they changed and what isn’t working now that did before?
Is it option 1? Keyword in Title?
Is it option 2? Keyword in URL?
Or is it option 3? Keywords in Heading?
You won’t know.
Now, this example is only with 3 changes, which are all consistent.
Imagine a scenario where you have 15 or 20 changes per page & they’re inconsistent with timing, identifying control pages for benchmarks, no one is tagging anything or managing log files, and time stamping known algorithm updates.
This drove me absolutely nuts and I wanted to quit out of SEO many times because of it just to focus on media buying.
So, what was I to do?
Quit out of SEO for good and hang up my black & grey & white hat or rally our best resources to create a skeleton key?
